Key Indicators in STEM Education draws together data spanning many years to show trends in the number of young people choosing science and maths at GCSE, A-level and undergraduate level, as well as data on gender balance, apprenticeship and vocational qualification uptake and teacher supplu across STEM education.
In February 2017 we commissioned London Economics to explore the relative benefits associated with level 4 and 5 STEM based qualifications. This report analysed the lifetime labour market returns (to the individual and the public purse) associated with higher education at levels 4 and 5.
Between November 2016 and March 2017, Gatsby, accompanied by college leaders and staff from the Department for Education (DfE), undertook study visits to explore how industry placements are structured in six technical education systems – Austria, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland. The study visits focused on placements that formed part of full-time technical education programmes for young people, typically aged 16 – 19. The purpose of these visits was to inform discussions about how industry placements are implemented effectively, and identify enabling features that could inform expansion of placements in England.
Against the backdrop of the Post-18 Review of Education and Funding and the Review of Level 4 and 5 Education, this report was commissioned by Gatsby to explore how the higher technical education system in England reached the point where it is today and how current provision compares with other countries. Authored by Simon Field, a leading independent expert on country skills systems, the report draws on history and international comparisons.
In order to help better understand and tackle gender stereotypes in engineering apprenticeships, the Gatsby Charitable Foundation commissioned Learning and Work Institute (L&W) to conduct an analysis of the government’s (SFA) Find an Apprenticeship dataset. Find an Apprenticeship is the official website for searching and applying for apprenticeships in England.
