Last week, the new Government confirmed its intention to include the refined Gatsby Benchmarks in statutory guidance. Here, Gatsby's Head of Career Programmes, Beth Jones welcomes the announcement.
The Gatsby Benchmarks have provided schools, colleges, universities and employers with a common language for career guidance, but we are still on a journey, and there are some areas where additional effort, particularly around the interactions between secondary schools and colleges, is needed to ensure young people can make the best decisions about their future.
As part of Gatsby’s ongoing work to support the careers guidance system in England, we have today launched a set of surveys exploring Gatsby careers Benchmark 7 (encounters with HE and FE) with schools, colleges and young people. The aim of the project is to learn more about how this Benchmark is being delivered on the ground, surface good practice and hear more about the barriers institutions are facing.

In September 2017 we launched Good Practical Science by Sir John Holman. The report provides a framework for good practical science in schools. Using international visits, surveys and literature reviews, we’ve developed a series of ten benchmarks for schools to use when planning their own approach to delivering practical science.
