Two years on, the Good Career Guidance Benchmarks Pilot has resulted in “transformational” changes to schools’ career programmes across the North East (NE).
After the publication of Sir John Holman's Good Career Guidance Report, which first set out the framework of eight Gatsby Benchmarks, we began working with the North East Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to pilot the framework in 16 schools and colleges. The pilot institutions were of varying types, sizes and Ofsted ratings and were challenged to work towards all eight Benchmarks over two years, with an evaluation tracking the impact of this activity until autumn 2019.
The Gatsby career benchmarks have recently been shared with the Spanish Fundación Bertelsmann, giving us further confidence that the framework can help all schools provide good career guidance to their students.
State of the Nation 2017, a report released today from the Careers and Enterprise Company has revealed that schools are making progress towards achieving good career guidance, as measured against the Gatsby benchmarks.
The Gatsby Benchmarks have been refined to better align with the needs of young people in college, following consultation with a number of colleges across England.
Gatsby has published Good Career Guidance: Reaching the Gatsby Benchmarks, a handbook for schools containing information to help schools on their journey towards implementing the Benchmarks. A hardcopy has been sent to every maintained secondary school in England.
