In July 2019 Gatsby released a new publication, which aims to inspire Careers Leaders, teachers and all those working with young people with special educational needs and disabilities to use the Gatsby Benchmarks to create a strong career guidance programme for each and every young person.
Gatsby has supported a project at the University of Huddersfield to research and support subject-specialist pedagogy for Initial Teacher Education in FE. This report sets out the need for work in this area, and summarises and evaluates the project.
Gatsby, The Careers & Enterprise Company and Disability Rights UK issued a joint statement on Wednesday 14 November on interpreting the Gatsby Benchmarks for Good Career Guidance for students with special educational needs and disabilities.
Between November 2016 and March 2017, Gatsby, accompanied by college leaders and staff from the Department for Education (DfE), undertook study visits to explore how industry placements are structured in six technical education systems – Austria, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland. The study visits focused on placements that formed part of full-time technical education programmes for young people, typically aged 16 – 19. The purpose of these visits was to inform discussions about how industry placements are implemented effectively, and identify enabling features that could inform expansion of placements in England.
This report commissioned by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation and authored by Sam Sims, outlines eight straightforward, evidence-based, interventions, secondary schools can use to improve their recruitment and retainment of high quality science teachers.
Against the backdrop of the Post-18 Review of Education and Funding and the Review of Level 4 and 5 Education, this report was commissioned by Gatsby to explore how the higher technical education system in England reached the point where it is today and how current provision compares with other countries.
